TrophosanThe age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the most frequent causes of vision impairments and blindness affecting persons aged over 65 in the western world. The ongoing regeneration of the photoreceptors characterises the intensive eye metabolism that requires a large amount of oxygen. This is the reason why the choroid of the eye is the tissue in the human body that has the most oxygen! At the same time however, the oxidative destruction of organic substances is pre-programmed by the combination of light and oxygen. In order to keep this "oxidative stress" to a level that is as low as possible, the photoreceptors and the surrounding tissues need to be supplied with an adequate amount of antioxidants. Clinical studies have proven that an increased intake of certain micronutrients has a positive influence on the genesis and process of the age-related macular degeneration.

TROPHOSAN Visiobalance® has been especially developed for the dietary management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It contains a high-dose combination of:

Zinc, as an essential component of antioxidative acting enzymes in the body.

Vitamin C, the highest concentration of which in the human body is to be found in the ocular tissue, it playing an important role in the antioxidative protection of the eyes.

Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant not only in many of the organ systems, but also in the eye, where it forms a part of the lipid membranes of the outer photoreceptor segments, protecting it from oxidative damage.

Lutein, the macular pigment that has a protective effect especially against blue light, thereby protecting the photoreceptors.
